Tube replacement suggestions for Art Pro VLA ii

Got a decent deal on an Art Pro VLA two and it does the job for a great price...it's only a bit transparent and I understand information technology's not an 1176. I was originally going to just use it for a alive rig merely I like it so much that I'm using it for habitation recording now.

I accept a 1963 Amperex Bugle Boy I bought from Bowie a while ago. I originally bought that tube to use with my Blue Robbie and it sounds amazing. However, I recently got a killer deal on an A Designs P1 and I am diddled away by the DI on that thing...pad in with the gain cranked to eight/11 is just indescribably awesome. It has kinda unintentionally usurped the Robbie for DI duties. Also have a GE Jan 12ax7 that I want to throw into the Art to give information technology a fleck more color.

I am still going to keep the Bluish Robbie, not only does it audio astonishing on just about anything simply it's the most convenient preamp/tube tester I take come beyond. Too bad they don't make a 1 or 2 aqueduct 19'' version of that affair; it would most likely sell exponentially better.

Before I take the Art out of the rack, open it upwardly and swap the tubes I'k just looking for suggestions on where I should put each NOS tube (which for input, which for output and why). Thanks.

To my knowledge, the Pro VLA Two uses 2 tubes in the makeup proceeds section, one for each channel. Considering of this, if you are using the compressor for whatsoever stereo duties (overheads, 2-buss, stereo acoustic guitar, etc.), you'd want matched tubes for it. When I asked Bowie about this a couple of weeks dorsum, he recommended some NOS Mullard 12AT7 tubes he has on manus and, since they don't need to be as depression noise in this application as they would in a mic pre, they price less, as well.

If you're non using this in stereo, experiment to see what y'all like, maybe even using a dissimilar tube on each aqueduct to meet if you lot tin become enough of a difference in tone to make for some more creative opportunities when using it.

That guy huh?

I got a pair of matched NOS Mullard 12AT7 in mine and couldn't be happier. Such a smooth sound. Sounds astonishing as a Hardware Plugin inside Cubase. I run rhythm guitar riffs through it and the sound just comes alive!!!

Quondam post, only I'll out my 2 cents in...

Erstwhile GE NOS 12AT7s.... Whole lot of divergence? Meh. Different enough? Yep. Makes the unit sound more LA2ish and expensive to our ears...

Oh, and old JJs ECC83 S'southward in the Art Pro MPA Two. Whole lot of difference. Similar, amazing difference.
